Unreal Engine Kitchen Scene

Unreal Engine 5 Kitchen Configurator Testing

State-of-the-art interactivity.

Always looking to test the latest and greatest in tech we have been experimenting with Unreal Engine 5 to check the potential for use as a platform for an interactive configurator. We've recently been developing a 3D planning tool using Unreal Engine 4 and previously tested UE4 on an ipad, so the purpose here was to test out the new UI and Lumen – the new dynamic global illumination and reflection feature.

As would be expected, scenes can be navigated and explored in a similar way to a computer game environment. UE5 is designed with large-scale world-building in mind, but this isn't a feature needed for our interior configurators. Our 3D artists just created a simple kitchen interior with some basic blueprints that control cabinet colours, textures and toggle between handleless and handled kitchens.

RTX on.

Aimed at next-generation computers and consoles, Lumen offers intensely realistic lighting and reflections. Our kitchen configurator test has been designed to demonstrate the capabilities of Lumen when paired with one of NVIDIA’s powerful RTX graphics cards, allowing for real-time ray tracing to achieve incredible levels of realism.
