3D scanned stone blocks on a yellow concrete floor

Assets.

We wanted to make some high quality 3D models and textures of landscaping materials to test the feasibility of capturing a large quantity.

Scanning stones.

Sculpting and texturing individual stones to construct a wall would be a time consuming process so we used our Artec 3D scanner to speed the process up and improve the precision.

The scanner captures both geometry and textures with up to 0.1mm accuracy, taking around 10 minutes to capture and another 10 to process each stone.

Results.

As a proof of concept this worked well, we scanned several stones and recreated a patio scene with a low height wall. Adjusting the texture detail and adding dirt and grime would be the next step to improving the realism, but this was adequate for this experiment.
